“A Solid Beginning
For Your Child's Education”
We are a non-commercial school with a concentration on the individual child.
Our curriculum, along with natural learning through free play, provides a positive and enriched environment that encourages the development of the whole child; their social, emotional, physical, and intellectual abilities that are intertwined like a multi-fiber weaving where each strand forms an essential part of the whole child, in a warm and secure environment where your child can thrive.
Little Scholars offers a small teacher-child ratio, which allows for an individualized focus on early childhood development for each child. Our approach gives the necessary tools to encourage children to explore and develop their individual skills. Our teaching methods provide stimulating activities that complement and enhance children’s emerging talents and natural curiosities. We implement the “Early Learning Guidelines – Core body of Knowledge” as a daily resource tool in our program.
It is no wonder that we have achieved an award-winning reputation and respect from our families and local school district educators. We are recognized as the Best Preschool on the North Shore.
Thank you for the opportunity to share our program with you. We welcome you to join our families at Little Scholars.
Our Curriculum
Preview of Our Programs:
The curriculum at Little Scholars is specifically designed to meet the needs of each child throughout their developmental stages.
Our age-appropriate interactive centers foster a love for learning while engaging children in a variety of hands-on learning experiences and social interactions. Incorporating piano lessons in our curriculum further enhances the development of the brain. Music and Art enrich the creative and artistic talents of children. An introduction to Spanish and Mandarin, adds an opportunity for linguistic acquisition.
These are just a few of the many activities that enrich the children’s experiences at Little Scholars. Our program is based on the “High Scope Common Core” curriculum-aligned preschool approach to early childhood education. It encourages the development of problem-solving skills, independence, ability to question, and explore their surroundings as they develop a love for learning in a fun environment.
Our STEAM program includes science, technology, engineering, art, and math. Early literacy begins at the Tiny Toddler level and continues throughout our Pre-K Program. The High Scope and the NYS Pre-K Standards further enrich our curriculum.

Our Programs:

Infants: 4 Months Old - 18 Months Old
Our Infant class offers a safe and nurturing environment for your child. We help our infants grow and develop into independent toddlers. Classical music flows in the background, known to improve the cognitive development of young children. Our classroom encourages the development of their fine and large motor skills through music, dance, and exploration. Teachers encourage language through rhyming games, finger play, songs, and books. Children learn to manipulate objects and explore in our sensory-rich classroom. They play, discover, and develop independence, as well as participate in interactive music. Our teachers are intuitive to the needs of each child, as each child is different, with differing needs and development. As the Tiny Toddlers are exploring their surroundings, they build trusting relationships with their teachers who support them throughout the day. We follow the “High Scope” Infant Curriculum, which fosters learning through discovery. Our curriculum is unique and individual just as your child is.

Toddlers: 18 Months Old - 3 Years Old
Our Toddler class continues to focus on key motor skills while language continues to grow as the teacher engages toddlers in conversation and our rich collection of books. The toddler verbalizes needs, multiple word phrases, and expresses emotions while personalities begin to develop. They actively participate in conversations with teachers and peers as they learn to follow one-step directions. The teacher further engages them with finger play songs, musical instruments, story time, and circle time. Spanish is immersed right into the daily group meeting time. The assortment of activities, help them to develop their fine motor skills as they sort, stack blocks, create art, and complete puzzles. Through dramatic play, they use their imaginations during dress-up and puppetry. Their curiosity is continuously fostered and their inquisitiveness is encouraged.

Nursery: 3 Years Old - 4 Years Old
At this grade level, our Little Scholars are ready for school. Through our STEM program, we provide exploration, discovery, and investigative opportunities for children; allowing them to expand their curiosity, knowledge, and inquisitive minds. Mathematical concepts emerge through play as they sort by size, color, and shape. Beginning writing is encouraged by connecting dotted lines and formulating letters. Our teachers actively engage children in learning experiences that build math and reasoning skills so children can solve problems. Science exploration is introduced at this stage of early childhood. The study of insects, the life cycle of a plant and the metamorphosis of a butterfly will intrigue your child. Reading various books satisfies and expands their curiosity, and lends for some imaginary travel. Music and art are a very important part of their day. Individual piano lessons and Mandarin instruction begin in the Nursery 3’s class.

Pre-K: 4 Years Old - 5 Years Old
Our Pre-K curriculum prepares our Little Scholars for their next step toward kindergarten readiness. With a little guidance from us, we can enhance children’s opportunities to engage in STEAM learning and develop their critical thinking skills. Our STEAM interdisciplinary program incorporates math, technology, science, language arts, music, and art. They thrive and develop in the area of creative thinking, cognitive, emotional, social, and physical growth. The scientific method is taught through our discovery table and classroom experiments, making hypotheses and conclusions. We foster reading readiness through weekly sight words and sentence formation. Their day consists of many opportunities for problem-solving, language, and the development of advanced communication skills. They have developed confidence and mastered sound, letter, and number recognition. Reading readiness emerges in Pre-K and students are enthusiastic mathematicians, engaging in math regularly as they build block towers, make patterns, complete challenging puzzles, or measure their growth. It is clearly evident through their expressions that the children are amazed as they make their discoveries.

Our Philosophy
Our mission is to provide a solid foundation that is based on an enriched academic curriculum together with natural learning through free play. We are firm believers that the most important time in a child’s life is from birth through 5 years of age. We provide a high-quality program that fosters your child’s journey for future academic, social, emotional, and physical growth. We have created fun and interactive child-centered classrooms and include math magic, reading literacy, science, foreign language, music, and art. We provide a secure learning environment that encourages the development of the whole child.
We help each child to develop self-confidence, self-respect, and challenge themselves, which leads to secure and independent thinking skills. We strive to encourage children to develop decision-making and problem-solving skills all while in a secure and nurturing environment. We instill positive values in the lives of children by encouraging conflict resolution and develop camaraderie among their peers. This develops a bond that will forever be an essential tool for life. Our classroom centers are warm and welcoming, with creative activities that make learning fun and exciting.
